PEOPLE BEHIND THE SCENES

Behind every film and every voyage are people whose contributions shape the story we remember.

This collection recognises the directors, production teams, cast, sailors, crew members and others who helped bring Bounty to life on screen and aboard the ship. Interviews, recollections, photographs and other records help preserve their experiences and perspectives. Their stories are an essential part of the Living Library, reminding us that Bounty's history is not only about a vessel, but also about the people who built her, sailed her, filmed her and carried her story forward.

James Parbery — Actor & Maritime Adviser

James Parbery's years aboard the 1978 Bounty replica brought him into a number of film and television productions, where his maritime experience proved invaluable.

His screen work included Robinson Crusoe (1996), Moby Dick (1998), and The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant(2005). For Mary Bryant, he played Captain Gilbert as a featured extra and served as maritime adviser, with Bounty portraying the First Fleet transport Charlotte. He also appeared as a crew member and stunt performer in productions filmed aboard the ship.

Beyond his on-screen roles, James sketched members of the Mary Bryant cast, preserving a personal artistic record of the production.

His story offers a glimpse into another side of Bounty's working life: not only as a sailing ship, but as a vessel that became a film set and brought maritime history to the screen.
